Charles Hind Memorial Race 03/31/18

Today’s race was hosted by the Ar-en-Ciel Club of Rhode Island. They hold this race every year to raise funds for Chris Hind’s son. #Chrishinds. Tragically, fifteen years in the past, Mr. Hinds died young and left behind a young boy and a widow. Each year the club sponsors this race to collect money for a scholarship to provide for Mr. Hind’s son.

The race was on a closed course designed for challenging race. There are some hard turns to make in each lap. The course is less than mile. Thus, you will need to repeat it many times. Every turn must be made perfectly. Flat, but the wind comes off the ocean and hits you hard. The Ninigret state park is located in Rhode Island. It is the only state park to feature an area dedicated to bike racing. Several other events are held, here, during the year.

Thanksgiving 2017

Today’s thankgiving ride will be a ride to Duxbury. Approximately 30miles. Roll at 10am. You should be capable of maintaining a 16mph rolling average. We will visit the Myles Standish monument, a commeration of one of the pilgrims.

Starting Location – Hanson Shaw’s Supermarket 145 Liberty St, Hanson, MA

No coffee stop. Bring your thermos !!

Sun 11-12-17

We’ll ride from Norwell High School tomorrow (Sunday 11/12) starting at 10AM for the 30-mile ride to Scituate Harbor and back. Coffee stop in Scituate at the Dunkin’ Donuts. It’s gonna be a cold one, so we’ll stop as often as we need and not drop anybody. Nothing too fast as wind chill will be a factor. Good luck to us all. 🌬️🚴‍♀️🚴‍♂️

Labor Day Weekend in review

We will have to move to fall/winter operating hours, soon.  It has starting to be nippy in the mornings.  The traffic patterns have also been changing. Starting next week the Coastal Loop will have a semi-permanent detour.  The bridge in Cohasset over Atlantic avenue will be closed until June of 2018.

As I write this Coach Tony is in second place on the weekly leaderboard. Can he take the top mileage spot?

NHS Ride Saturday, August 26, 2017

We had 3 new riders this morning; Karen, Buzzy and Jack. We had more than a dozen riders with two groups riding. It was a cool at the start of the ride, but warmed up quickly. We had coffee at the Coffee Corner. After the ride we were able to get a couple people up and running on Strava.

I would like to thank the mello riders for waiting patiently as we gave aid to an unaffiliated rider who had taken a fall in the box. As you can see in the pictures, his pedal broke off along with his mirror. He was okay and called for assistance from a friend who was on her way when we left.

The season’s penultimate Halifax ride was last night.  Next week, we will ride for the last time of the season.  Meet at Cape Cod Pizza in Halifax at 7:30 for a post ride dinner!

Sundays – Where do we go?

The club offers several streams of different pacings and distances.  This enables people to progress from beginner level to intermediate level rapidly.  We help develop you and progress your fitness.  So, now you can go on a tour!

The other week, Judy and Maria, went on a 400 mile bike tour.  Tracy rode from Montreal to Boston.   Ian is riding to Canada, next week.  We help you develop towards your goals.  Part of it is showing how to form those goals and measure progress.

Every Sunday we do the “flatter” area.  The coastal route on Saturdays has more elevation gain.  It is nice to have a change of pace.

Every Sunday the A group and the B group ride different routes that are created by the ride organizers.  It is nice to do something different.  These also enabsample route 08-13-17le to adjust the intensity of the rides and customize the rides to suit the level of the riders.  It also keeps everything fresh.

I generally try to find flow.  Right turns are always better.  Intersections that take less time.  30 seconds versus a 5 minute wait?  No brainer!  I also seek those low-traffic roads and the butter-smooth pavement.

Usually the A group does at least 50 miles on Sunday.  We often reach pacing of 22mph on large segments of the ride.  We can come back with an average of 19.6 or 20.5.  The B group averages 18-19mph.

Chasing those Strava Segments also helps your training.  Together, it is like we work intervals.
